Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Detroit at Atlanta (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 5 units on Atlanta -6 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6)

The Atlanta Dream has made great strides. Here they are after a four-win season last year, in the post season against last year's champs the Detroit Shock. Atlanta came out guns a blazing against the Shock in game one, as they opened up a 14-point lead after one quarter. The Shock fought their way back and in the end, playing their first playoff game on the road, the Dream got tight when the game got tight late and coughed it up. They will have that game under their belts, and come home to a friendly, motivating crowd and where they have been a tough out all season. The Dream finsihed the reguar season at home by going 9-2. Included in those nine wins was a 5-1 record against teams that made the playoffs. The Shock was tough down the stretch as they had a lot of home games and finished with six straight wins at home. They finished just 3-4 in their last seven on the road. Perhaps the most telling of all is that they were 0-3 against teams that made the playoffs. I like Atlanta to win and cover this one.

The Seattle Storm has been the toughest team to face on their own court by far in the WNBA. The Storm has now compiled a 33-5 mark at home for the past 2+ years. Los Angeles did not fare well on the WNBA road this season as they turned in a 7-10 mark. The Storm has also gone 7-1 in their last eight at home vs. the Spark, and this season they won both games played in Seattle. I will go with Seattle on the moneyline here.

This line is basically saying that LA is the better team if you consider the three point home-court advantage. The standings certainly don't suggest that, nor does the LA road record vs. the Storm's home record. The Storm have been kings of the home court where they have compiled a 33-5 mark in their last 38 played in Seattle. The Spark have not been a very good road team on the year as they finished the regular season at just 7-10. Los Angeles certainly has done nothing in Seattle to make me feel that they are immune to the Seattle homecourt dominance as they are 1-7 here in their last eight games, and they stand at just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 here. Seattle has been putting up some points as they readied themselves for the playoffs. The last time these teams met here they put up 185 between them. The Storm has played OVER in each of their last four home games, so I like Seattle here along with the OVER.
