Free Basketball Betting Picks - September 12, 2009

We split our WNBA premium picks again last night, going 2-2 and handing back less than one unit. Today we are back with a vengeance and going with four premium picks including a 4-unit paly. On the season we are 107-81 for +43 units.

Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Atlanta at Washington (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Washington -7.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)

This looks like a fishy line with the Atlanta Dream at 18-15 and the Washington Mystics at 15-17. The Dream's work is done, as they will be in the playoffs and this is their final game, so you may see a lot of players logging minutes that don't usually get them. For Washington, they need the win here, so the extra tax of a couple of points here does not add up to the mentality that each will bring to this game. Washington will play with intensity and focus, while the Dream will play with a lot of extra bench players logging beyond their usual minutes. That adds up to more than the 2-3 points that have been added to this line, and makes a play on Washington the only way to go.

It has been a new era for both of these teams. The Sky are in need of a win to finish at .500 and have been great at home with an 11-4 mark. Last year the Shock cut down the nets at the end of it all in the WNBA and struggled, but a late run has given them a playoff shot. The difference has been a team under coach Laimbeer that was defense first, has now become a lot more offensive minded. The Shock are 8-2 in their last 10, and have scored 86 points per game. The Sky is no stranger to offense, putting up 86 ppg in their last seven at home. The Sky have collected the money in five of their last seven at home, where they have outplayed most teams this season. I like them here and for this one to go OVER.

This has been a very trying year for San Antonio, who was all but invincible at home a year ago, but not so this year. A year ago, this team was 15-2 at home and blowing out just about everyone. This season, their 10 wins were hard fought as two of them came in OT, and three others were decided by four points or less. Nothing has come easy for this team and a competent Seattle team has won here already this season, and I think they will at least keep this one close. The Silver Stars have really struggled on one day of rest where they are 4-14 ATS in their last 18, and they are also just 7-20 ATS off an ATS win, and just 1-6 ATS off a straight up win. Those are not the kind of numbers to take into a game against a competent team. I'll go with Seattle in this one.
