Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Phoenix at Detroit (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Detroit -1.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

This has been a disappointing season for last year's WNBA Champions. They battled injuries early and just never got over the top, but the talent is still there. They have regrouped to go 11-8 in their last 19 games and have won four of their last five. When you look at the eight losses, three of them were in OT, and three others by five points or less, so they are in virtually every game and they have won four of their last five at home. They will have their game faces on tonight, because they will be motivated to knock off the Western leader, the Phoenix Mercury, and at the same time revenge a hard-fought loss in Phoenix, decided in OT. Phoenix has been on cruise control after a 12-4 start and are just 6-4 since, so I like the Shock here to rev-it-up and win a big one for them at home.

The Minnesota Lynx have not been doing a lot of winning, but as bad as the breaks have gone against them, they did end a six-game losing streak against Sacramento. The losing streak saw them lose games by two, three, and four points, so they certainly are knocking on the door and playing competitive basketball. The San Antonio Silver Stars have had a horrible season and have not won more than two in a row all season and in fact, they have not even won back-to-back games for over a month now and that was by the slimmest of margins at three points. That means that they have only won two in a row by winning the second by this pointspread, just once all season long! Clearly, the Silver Stars aren't sitting in a position of strength here, and it has left them at 0-4 ATS after their last four SU wins. I like Minnesota, who seems to still have some competing juices flowing vs. a San Antonio team that has had a disappointing season and is just not motivated right now.

The bad news for Connecticut is that the season is winding down and they sit 1.5 games behind Atlanta for a playoff spot. The good news is they have back-to-back games against the worst two teams record-wise in the WNBA, and then get a shot head-to-head with Atlanta. That means they have to win here tonight, and a big effort is likely against a bad team. Sacramento has not had a good season, in fact they own the worst record in the WNBA and with that said, this team has still been posted as a favorite nine times, but they have failed there as well, as they stand at just 3-6 when favored ATS. They are also off what has to be their biggest emotional win of the year winning by a single point at league-best Indiana. They should be very flat here tonight against a Connecticut team that has no choice but to bring their "A" game or their season ends tonight. I'm going with Connecticut here.
