 Today's WNBA Basketball Picks: The Mercury have won two Championships in three years, and look to be even better this season. They have 7-8 players that can hang a 20+ on an opponent on any given night, and with Coach Corey Gaines focusing attention on creating tough perimeter shots for their opponents, the advantage begins to grow. They have dominated this LA team to the tune of a 6-2 ATS mark in the last eight meetings. The Mercury will be stoked in the opener at home and get the call here.Game: Washington at Indiana (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Game Total OVER 147 -110 (risk 2 to win 1.8) The Washington Mystics took a blow when it was learned that star player Alana Beard would miss the season, just when they were expected to contend. There is still a lot of talent left to make the playoffs. This is a team that has an elongated history of playing OVER to high totals by WNBA standards. The mark sits at 39-19 to the OVER when playing to a total in the 140s. Indiana has played to the over in five of seven vs. the East, while Washington is 10-4 in the same spot. That combines for 15-6 mark to the OVER and these teams haven't disappointed the OVER backers when they take the court as the last seven meetings have seen six top the total. OVER gets the call.Game: Minnesota at Tulsa (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Minnesota +5 (-110) (risk 2 to win 1.8) The Minnesota Lynx have some serious talent and they are finally experienced enough to use it to turn the corner and become a viable competitor for a deep post-season run this year. The Detroit Shock moved the franchise to Tulsa, but left the entire roster behind as 10 new faces don a Tulsa uniform. That will make the early part of the season chaotic and disorganized. This club will be ripe for the taking early, especially vs. a competent offensive team like the Lynx. Nolan Richardson likes the up-tempo, frenetic style, but it will take his team awhile to get good at it. The problem is that plays right into the Lynx's strong suit, so I'll back Minnesota here.
