Basketball Free Picks - June 27, 2009
We connected on three of our WNBA plays last night, but gave back a couple units. Our WNBA season-to-date mark rolls on as we are 24-18 for +16.5 units. Today we look to add to that mark with another two premium WNBA plays.

Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:
Game: Atlanta at Connecticut (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on Connecticut -7.5 (-105) (risk 2 to win 1.9)
This is a much-improved Atlanta team, but on the road they have just three wins in their WNBA franchise history. One of those wins was their only road win of the season and was at Connecticut. You can be sure that the Sun have heard about that and will be ready to give it to them in this one. Atlanta gave the Sun a scare last season as their 0-13 team went into Connecticut and forced the Sun into OT. When they came back again the next time, the Sun laid a 26-point beating on them. The Dream also have the disadvantage here of playing on back-to-back nights, where they are just 1-4 ATS in their last five. The Dream beat Chicago a season ago, and the next game lost to them by 13. They beat Indiana and the next game lost to them by 15 points. The other two wins did not get re-matched yet. The Sun will be next in line to get up big for this Dream team, so I'm going with Connecticut here.

The Minnesota Lynx looked like a team on the rise, until Simeone Augustus went down with an injury. They immediately changed their style and tempo and went from a team that averaged 87 points per game with Augustus to a team that has scored 65.5 ppg without her. They went from 172 total points a game down to 139. Phoenix likes to get up-and-down the court, but they aren't going to have a willing partner here. When you start to approach the 180 mark in a WNBA game, you need both teams willing to run and Minnesota just isn't playing that way since Augustus went down. It isn't just evident from the scores it is evident from the pace of the game. Their first six games with her saw 133 shots attempted per game, while the last two without her has shown 116. This one is based on the whole picture for the Lynx, but that picture has changed dramatically, so I look for this one to go UNDER the total.
