Wnba Free Predictions - June 22, 2008

Our WNBA picks continue to smoke as we are now up +17.7 units over the last week. We are 9-3 during that time and look to keep the winning going today with five selections.

Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Detroit at Atlanta (3:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 155.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)

The Atlanta Dream has started 0-12 and the win column may be a challenge all season long. Outside of Betty Lennox at 18.9 points per game, the scoring has been very inconsistent and so has the shooting as they are hitting under 40% as a team. They have not reached the 70 point mark in their last two games. Detroit has already come to Atlanta and won convincingly, and with back-to-back games on slate with Eastern Conference leader Connecticut on deck, we can't see them putting up much of an effort in this one, but just enough to get a win and then head home. In the WNBA, road teams that outscore their opponents by 3+ points a game, with a total of 140+, that are coming off a game where they scored 80+ have played to the UNDER in their next game to the tune of 82-39. It is hard to ignore the game situation for the Shock and the long history of UNDERS in this kind of matchup, so UNDER gets the call here.

Game: Phoenix at New York (4:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Phoenix +2 (-105) (risk 3 to win 2.9)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 172.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Both of these teams have played to the middle of the pack, but after a slow start Phoenix has now won back-to-back games including a big win over Connecticut while the Liberty have dropped their last game. Phoenix has found the win column by running and running more, and is simply playing to outscore their opponents. The past two games have seen them average 107 points per, while giving up in the 90-point range. The Liberty has had trouble defending of late, and Phoenix is the wrong type of team for them to be playing right now as they have struggled on the defensive end. New York has allowed more points in their last three games than any other three consecutive games on the season. We like Phoenix's ability to score vs. the Liberty's inability to get stops, and we the OVER as well in this one.

Game: Chicago at Sacramento (9:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Chicago +230 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 6.9)
Picking a team on the moneyline that is on the road in the WNBA has to be a very selective process as excluding Atlanta, who can't win anywhere; home teams are 50-24 on the season straight up. One team that hasn't been able to cash in is the Sacramento Monarchs who have a losing record on their home court. They have dropped their last three at home by a margin of almost 13 points per game and are really struggling. Chicago has shown the ability to score, topping 100 against Phoenix, but when they do score they find the win column, and one such win was by 10 points over the Monarchs where they scored 87. The key here is the Monarchs are just 2-6 when they allow 70 or more points and the Sky are beginning to show some offense which should be enough to propel them on the road for an outright win.

Game: Indiana at Los Angeles (9:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 144.5 +100 (risk 3 to win 3)
At 8-3 the LA Sparks are one of the top teams in the WNBA. The most consistent part of their game occurs at the offensive end where they have managed to reach the 70 point mark in each of their 11 games played thus far. They have been even better at home where their lowest output on the season has been 79 points. Indiana is a team that likes to maintain a half-court game, but had trouble even at home where these teams played and put up 160 points in Indiana. The 78 points scored by the Sparks was a season high against the Fever. LA has proven to be an impossible team to slow down on their home court and the fact that the Fever couldn't slow them down at home, makes this total look to be chock full of value on the OVER and that is our play here.

Results: 1-4
