Wnba Picks - June 18, 2008

Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:
Game: San Antonio at Atlanta (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 151.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)
This Atlanta team does not have the personnel to play in this league, as witnessed by their 0-10 start. San Antonio has figured something out. They opened the season allowing 72 points or more in six of their first seven games, and it got them a 3-4 record. They have since been holding each of their last three opponents to under 70 points and four of their last five. The result is three straight wins - all created on the defensive end, while displaying patience on the offensive end as well. San Antonio is the better team and better teams often impose their will on a lesser team. That means defense here, so we will ride the UNDER.
Game: New York at Indiana (7:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on New York +275 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 8.3)
Indiana has done a good job at home over their years in the WNBA. But at 3-2 this season, there is a bit more concern. The record certainly doesn't look bad, but one of the home losses was to San Antonio, who has not won on the road anywhere else. The home wins have come at the expense of a road-poor Houston team that has yet to win on the road and Washington, who is just 1-5 on the road, their record looks a bit suspect. Then the NY Liberty who is 5-4, but the four losses are to teams with a combined record of 31-12! They lost two times to CT, once to Detroit and also once to Sacramento. The Liberty is the better team and we like them to grab an upset road win here.
Game: Phoenix at Connecticut (10:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Phoenix +2 (-115) (risk 3 to win 2.6)
At 9-2 the Connecticut Sun have gotten off to a fast start. This looks easy and the line looks too easy. There is a reason. The Sun has had two grueling road games back-to-back, and this will be their fourth on the road in a row in nine days, changing time zones along the way. This is a long-dominated home-team league, and in the right spot there is value, as home teams have posted a 42-27 mark thus far. Behind Cappy Pondexter (25.5 ppg) and Diana Turasi (23.5ppg), Phoenix is always a threat on any given night especially at home. They have played a tough schedule so far facing LA twice, Seattle twice as well as Detroit, so their record may not be reflective of what this team can do, and this is a good spot to go against a road-weary Connecticut team.
Game: Chicago at Los Angeles (10:35 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 147.5 +100 (risk 3 to win 3)
Los Angeles has put up over 80 points a game and Chicago comes in here knowing that if they allow for a track meet they go home with the loss. Los Angeles is coming off of two division games and totals in this range have produced a 138-86 mark, or good for 61.6%. Los Angeles has also won four of their last five and when teams in the WBNA are at home with a total of 140+ in that situation the UNDER is 126-74 or 63%. There are Lots of signals that are too hard to ignore here. The UNDER gets the call in this one.
