![]() Today's WNBA Basketball Picks: Game: Seattle at Sacramento (4:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 141 +100 (risk 3 to win 3) Seattle will head south to take on Sacramento in each team's WNBA opener. The Monarchs were one of the most improved teams over the second half of last season. They opened at a dismal 8-11, but came on strong to finish 10-5 and make the playoffs. The biggest change was at the offensive end. They went from a bottom-third offense in the low 70s, to a team that averaged 82.1 points per game in their final eight at home. In the playoffs, they were the top-scoring team. This total is set way to low for a team that has found a home in the 80s, so I'll back the OVER here.Game: Indiana at Atlanta (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 147.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7) The Atlanta Dream will begin its second trek through the WNBA, when it faces the Indiana Fever at home. The Dream sure hopes it doesn't take them 19 games to get their first win as it did in their first year in the league. Atlanta likes an up-tempo style, and I truly believe the Fever will want to run with them, considering they have the better athletes. That was the case with Atlanta a year ago, when they played to a 16-4 mark to the OVER in their last 20 games within their conference. Indiana also picked up the pace towards the end of last season, closing with an 8-2 mark to the OVER. The last two times these teams met, the track meet was on, as each game produced 158 points. I don't see anything different for this one, and will go with the OVER here.Game: Chicago at Minnesota (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Minnesota -2 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7) Pick: 2 units on Game Total OVER 153 -110 (risk 2 to win 1.8) The Sky will be entering their fourth year in the WNBA, and after finishing in the basement the first two years, they finally finished out of the cellar in '08. The problem wasn't due to progress the Sky actually lost more games a year ago at 22, than they did in '07 when they lost just 20. The Lynx should be a much-improved team, as they will have Renee Montgomery on the floor to compliment a running game that already features top players Simeone Augustus, and Candice Wiggins. The Lynx finished second to the run-and-gun Phoenix team in points scored, and one can only imagine that with a backcourt of Montgomery and Wiggins and their speed, this team will improve upon the 80+ points a game they averaged a year ago. I like Minnesota here, and expecting them to turn it up from their 81 a game last year, I am also going with the OVER.Game: San Antonio at Phoenix (10:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Phoenix -2 (+100) (risk 2 to win 2) The San Antonio Silver Stars had a great season last year, and finished runner-up to Detroit in the WNBA Finals. The Silver Stars were great at home, compiling a 15-2 mark, but were very ordinary on the road at just 9-8. Phoenix is a high-octane offense that started coming together at the end of '08 where they won four of their last six games. Their final three at home were all wins and covers by an average margin of almost 15 points a game. I look for them to be an improved team from a year ago. Playing at home where they finished strong, I like them to surprise the Silver Stars, so Phoenix gets the call. Results: 4-2 ![]() WNBA Basketball Picks Resources:
