Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Washington at Connecticut (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Connecticut -3.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

This becomes a crucial spot for Connecticut and their playoffs aspirations. They reside in fourth place in the East, two games from securing a playoffs spot. One of those teams above them is the Washington Mystics. Washington had control of the division, but has fallen hard of late, winning of just one of their last four. They have been 5-2 playing the West, but just 8-6 vs. the East, and have won just once in their last four in the division. Connecticut is off a surprising upset loss at home to lowly LA who had been 1-10 on the road, so the Sun will be playing with purpose, with a chip on their shoulder and on a home court that has proven lethal. I'll go with Connecticut here.

It has become apparent where all the power lies this season in the WNBA, it is in the East. Despite the fact that New York is playing .500 basketball for the season, they reside in the basement of the East. If they were in the West, they would be a lock for the playoffs. Aside from Seattle at 20-2, the rest of the teams in the West are a combined 36-65. San Antonio certainly hasn't shown much this season and when they have had to go into the tough East, on the road, they are not only 0-4, they have been beaten by an average margin of 17.3 points per game! New York is playing better than a .500 team right now at 7-4 in their last 11, and I like them to get the win and cover here.

The Seattle Storm has proven to be on another level from the rest of the WNBA at 20-2.  They seem to be on cruise control right now. Outside of Tulsa, their previous four wins showed them trailing in the fourth quarter, and win the fourth by 8, 9, 4, and 12 points to secure the win. Teams that are so far ahead in the conference often get complacent and play just good enough to win and that certainly describes Seattle. They have last year's champ. Despite a 10-12 mark for the season controls their own playoffs destiny, and Phoenix is a dangerous team, winning five of six. These teams play wars with four of the last five decided in overtime, with Phoenix winning two of the four straight-up. Points and motivation are a good combo, so I'll go with Phoenix here.
