Wnba Sports Picks - July 27, 2008

Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: San Antonio at Detroit (6:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on Detroit -2 (+100) (risk 2 to win 2)

While San Antonio sits atop our power ratings along with Seattle, their strength certainly comes when they are on their home court. They are 12-2 at home but just 5-7 on the road. They are also playing poorly of late posting a 2-3 mark, allowing 79 ppg over their last five games. Detroit is similar. They are just 6-8 on the road but 10-2 at home. Here at home they score 81.4 ppg. This is a small spread given that we have a 10-2 team facing a 5-7 team and we'll back the Shock.

Two mediocre clubs meet here and we'll take the points on the team looking to revenge an embarrassing 18 point loss back on July 3. The oddsmakers are telling you something by instilling LA as such a small road dog after that 18-point beat down last time these teams met. In that game, the Sparks shot just 36.8% from teh field including 3-for-20 from beyond the arc. This is a team that averages 42% from the field and 33% from three-point land. That game was an anomoly and they will not repeat that poor performance here. The Sparks are 9-2 ATS this season revenging a loss in which they gave up 75+ points. Minnesota is coming off a double-digit win over San Antonio and the Lynx are just 3-12 ATS the past three seasons in the game following a 10+ point win. We'll take the motivated dog here.

The Monarchs are on a roll having won seven straight. But, six of those seven wins came as a favorite against inferior teams. Tonight they meet up with one of the top teams in the league and we think their run comes to an abrupt end. Seattle is coming off a loss and they have lost two of three so they will be very motivated here and won't let up if they build a lead. This team has just one home loss (to 12 wins). That loss was over a month and a half ago and came to a Detroit team that found lightning in a bottle and shot 52% from the field. The Monarchs are not that kind of team as they average just 41% on the year and 38.8% in division games. Seattle gets up for winning opponents as they are 7-1 ATS this season vs. teams over .500. They are 13-4 ATS the past two seasons at home vs. teams that allow 73+ ppg. We like Seattle to get it done and win and cover this number.
