Wnba Picks Free - July 17, 2008

Today we are back on the WNBA wood with two WNBA picks including our 5-unit Game of the Month on today's early game.

Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Minnesota at Houston (12:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 5 units on Houston -5 (+100) (risk 5 to win 5)

Houston has been one of the worst in the WNBA taking to the road at 3-10, but a completely different club at home where they own a 6-2 mark. So the overall record doesn't look pretty, but they play a different game in front of the home crowd. The fact is that they have now won six of seven at home, and that includes wins over San Antonio and Seattle - the top two teams in the West. Minnesota may be showing a respectable 10-10 record, but considering they began the WNBA season at 5-0, they are just 5-10 since, generating just one road win in those 15 games. This game looks like the worst team is favored as Houston sits tied for the basement in the West, but a closer look reveals the truth. Minnesota is a .333 team over the last 75% of their games while Houston is 6-1 in their last seven at Home. We like Houston to come away with the comfortable home win.

Since their opener, Los Angeles has not seen a game reach this many points except in an OT game with Connecticut, and that includes two games played vs. Phoenix. Phoenix went through a very explosive offensive stretch in the middle of the season where they averaged 94 a game, but has since quieted down some producing just 87 points per game. The Sparks have held Phoenix below those numbers the last two times they have met, and seem to have found a way to slow this team down. The odds makers are still cranking out totals based on the 94 ppg stretch that Phoenix had, yet the numbers aren't as good lately, so we like the UNDER in this one.
