Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Connecticut at Detroit (6:00 PM Eastern)

Detroit has certainly struggled this year but in certain spots this is a good team to back. We were on them a week ago today when they got their first win for Rick Mahorn. We then faded them in a huge way against New York after that game. Both of those worked out and we'll go ahead and back them again tonight. This is a very winnable game for them and they will be bringing it in an effort to climb out of the basement. Despite their poor record, they should have the confidence necessary tonight as Detroit has beaten the Sun eight straight times here at home. Connecticut has played just three road games, losing two. Detroit is a much better team at home, giving up over 10 points per game less at The Palace than on the road. Connecticut is just 10-19 ATS the past two seasons vs. division foes and 7-16 ATS off an ATS win. Detroit gets their third win (and cover) here.

Indiana is on a roll and I like it to continue tonight. They've won seven straight games by an average of 10 points per game. That includes three games in which they were an underdog! Now they get the Dream who despite posting a decent 4-3 at home, are just 1-3 on the road. The Dream are going to have a lot of trouble with Katie Douglas who is averaging 18 points per game and hitting 40% from beyond the arc. I like Indiana to keep rolling here with a double-digit win. I also like this game to go OVER the total. Atlanta games have averaged 163 points per game this season while Indiana games have gone for 143 per game. The Dream is 22-9 OVER the past two seasons in division games and 12-4 OVER during that span when coming off a game that went UNDER the total. Indiana is 13-3 OVER the past three seasons following a double-digit home win.

Candace Parker makes her 2009 debut in this game and the return of the reigning Rookie of the Year and league MVP will have this place fired up. She may be rusty after maternity leave but her presence alone will spark the Spark. The Spark is 3-0 at home this season having won those three games in ridiculous fashion: 78-58, 67-47 and 82-55. Phoenix is 1-3 on the road this season, allowing 94 ppg to opponents. Yes, Phoenix scores, but LA plays well against such teams having gone 13-5 ATS the past two seasons against opponents that average 73+ points per game. In the underdog role, Phoenix crumbles having posted a 4-14 ATS record as a dog the past two seasons. Meanwhile, the Spark are 19-9 ATS in the favorite role over that same span including 8-1 ATS as a home favorite of six or more points. Finally, Los Angeles has revenge going for them here, having lost in Phoenix on June 19. The Spark is a perfect 12-0 ATS the past couple of seasons revenging a same season loss. LA gets the call here.
