Free Wnba Basketball Picks - July 05, 2008

Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Connecticut at Indiana (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Connecticut +127 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 5.1)

Connecticut is 13-5 including 5-3 on the road. In the past week, they have moved to the top of our WNBA power rankings. Yes, Indiana is a very good team at home, but the better team here is the Sun. Connecticut scores more on the road than does Indiana at home. Over their last five games, Indiana has allowed 78.8 ppg. Over the past decade, this Sun team is 19-2 straight up vs. teams that shoot 40% or worse. Over that same span, Indiana is 6-22 vs. teams at .600 or better (after 15 games). Over the past two seasons, Indiana is 8-13 vs. teams scoring 77+ ppg. They are 1-6 this season following a win. We'll back the better team as a nice dog on the moneyline.

Seattle is tough at home where they play tight defense. But, Minnesota can penetrate this defense as they are averaging 82.1 ppg on the road this season. We don't think the Lynx should be getting this many points. Consider that they are 7-1 ATS this season as an underdog. Seattle put up 84 on New York last game but the Storm are 12-23 ATS the past three seasons after a game in which they scored 80+ points. We like Minnesota to keep this one close.

Should the Mercury be laying 6.5 points? Not with a defense that allows 92.3 ppg at home. New York has a bad defense but it's MUCH beter than Phoenix's. And the Liberty have the offense to keep up with Phoenix. Home favorites off three straight wins come through ATS just 35% of the time in the WNBA. And, New York is a perfect 10-0 ATS the past two seasons when coming off a double-digit road loss. Phoenix is 2-10 ATS the past three seasons at home after two straight road games. We'll back New York to keep this one close.
