Wnba Free Picks - July 03, 2008
Our 5-unit play yesterday was a tremendous disappointment. Indiana was up by 17 points with three minutes to go, dominating all game and things looked great. With five seconds to go, they are up by 10 - it's in the bag, right? Chicago drives for a two-point layup and hits the bucket. A very questionable foul is called and Chicago converts the three point play and we lose by the hook. Argggh!
Today we are back with three more plays including another 5-unit pick.
Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:
Game: Houston at Atlanta (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Atlanta +164 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 4.9)
Can a team complete a season without a win in the WNBA? No answer for that, but if there is a spot for Atlanta to get win number 1, this is it. The Houston Comets are the bottom dweller in the Western Conference, and has sustained the most road losses of any team, as they are tied with this Dream team at seven in the loss column on the road. There have been a couple close calls for this Dream team of late, especially taking Connecticut to OT on the road and dropping a close decision to Detroit on the road. Houston is coming off a road game at Connecticut, where they spent a lot of energy trying to stay in the game with one of the WNBA's best teams. The Comets have already beaten this Dream team, so this is a place for a bad road team to get caught. We will ride the Dream tonight to log win No. 1 on the season.
Game: New York at Seattle (10:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 5 units on New York +6.5 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6)
Seattle has just not bee the same team since coming off of a 5-1 start, as they have gone 4-6. The problem has been on the offensive end where they have scored in the 60s in seven of the 10 games since the good start. Seattle’s opponents however, have been scoring in the 70s in seven of the 10. That equates to the change and a very positive team turning negative. The problem here is that this Liberty team has suddenly become very offensive, and in the process is 7-4 over their last 11. The Liberty has scored 88.6 points per game in their last five, and that spells trouble for a Seattle team that is struggling to put points on the board. We will back the Liberty here.
Game: New York at Seattle (10:10 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on New York +250 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 7.5)
We like the Liberty to have a great chance to steal one here, for the reasons stated in our pick with the points. When the season reaches July, the WNBA shows a history if you have been an offensive team like the Liberty who is averaging over 77 ppg on the season. When a team puts up this many points by July, they have been 41-20 to the moneyline, so the Liberty gets the call to win straight up as well.
