Free Wnba Pick Sports - July 01, 2008We dropped both of our picks on Sunday, but we were coming off a solid 5-1 performance for +16.3 units on Saturday. Over the last two weeks our WNBA picks are hitting 62% (24-15) for +31 units. Today we are back with five picks.
![]() Today's WNBA Basketball Picks: The Los Angeles Sparks now own the best record in the WNBA at 10-4 and have played well for the entire season. They have dropped two of their last four however, including an inexcusable loss to Washington at home their last time out. This is a good team, but we question the lofty pointspread issued for this game and we find value on the visiting Liberty. The Spark has had five double-digit wins on the entire season in their 14 games to date, and just one of those has been to a team with a .500 record or higher, so this line comes into question here. The Liberty has struggled within their own conference, but has been more than competitive against the West, where they own a 4-1 mark on the season. We look for the Liberty to hang around in this one. Game: Houston at Connecticut (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 151 +100 (risk 3 to win 3) This is a Connecticut team that really feeds off of their home court fans and likes to get out and run. They had a horrible game at home against Indiana, but otherwise, their other eight home games; they have produced just shy of 90 points per game. Houston has won four straight, and they have made tremendous strides on the offensive end of the court. Their first four road games resulted in scoring in the 60s in each one, all losses, but the last four have netted two wins, and no game scoring below 72. During that stretch they have averaged over 75 points a game. This game has the look of being played in the low 160s, so we will pull the trigger on the OVER here. Game: Phoenix at Atlanta (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 182 -105 (risk 3 to win 2.9) Just like the temperature rises in Phoenix come summertime, so too has the offensive output of the Mercury. This is a team that has produced 102 points against Connecticut and 94 aginst LA. Lately the points are coming faster, and faster as this team begins to perfect the running game. The problem is that the points scored by their opponent have been very high as well. They just simply play to outscore their opponent. The lowest output they have allowed on the season is 79. So now it's off to Atlanta who has averaged over 100 points a game in their last two, but has also allowed over 100 points a game as well. Although an adjustment has been made with this one slated by oddsmakers to be played in the low 180s, we don't feel like it is enough, and this one could should see Phoenix topping the 100 mark. With Atlanta scoring well lately and facing no defense at home coupled with the Mercury holding no one under 80 points, the OVER becomes the valued choice here. Game: Chicago at Minnesota (8:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Minnesota -7.5 (+100) (risk 3 to win 3) The Minnesota Lynx went through a very bad stretch this season where they went 0-5, but otherwise has been one of the top teams in the league at 8-2. They also won in Chicago by six points earlier in the season. Around that losing streak they have also posted double-digit wins in four of their five at home. The Chicago Sky has posted just one road win the entire season and that came in Atlanta, who hasn't won a game all season. The Sky has now dropped five of their last six games period. This one has the looks of a double-digit game, so we will take the Lynx to get it done at home. Game: Detroit at San Antonio (8:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Detroit +3 (-105) (risk 3 to win 2.9) The San Antonio Silver Stars and the Detroit Shock square off in San Antonio tonight as two of the top teams in the WNBA. The Silver Stars gave up their home court mastery with an unexpected loss to Houston - their first home defeat of the season. It broke a five-game winning streak, and has since gone 1-2 in their last three. They have not played any of the top teams in the WNBA at home yet this season, except LA, and they barely snuck out with a two- point win. The Shock is certainly battle tested having faced CT and LA twice on the road. This is a better Shock team that has won eight of 10 games played in San Antonio over the years. WNBA teams with a winning record off a home win have not fared well, as they are just 42-78 covering their next game, or just 35% of the time. We will ride the Shock here. Results: 1-4 ![]() WNBA Basketball Picks Resources:
