Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Connecticut at Atlanta (7:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 159 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)

The WNBA returned to action after a long layoff due to the Olympic games in China. Last night we got a great view of what has transpired in the layoff, and that was teams come back offensively rusty. A firm indication of that was the 55 points produced by Phoenix - which has been a scoring machine all season. The numbers being posted by oddsmakers are based on what happened before the Olympic games, and not what to expect the first time out after a long layoff. Last night's results firmly attest to the fact these teams are not where they were prior to the layoff. A total of five games were played, and every single one went under the total. They not only went under the total, but averaged going under the total by more than 16 points! We will exploit the bad line here and make this game a choice to go UNDER.

The New York Liberty saw action last night after a long layoff. Going back-to-back games here may lead to some tired legs, especially against a Detroit team that has been tough at home going 10-3 on the season. These teams have shared 10-point losses on the opponents’ court, with the Liberty winning by 10 at home, and the Shock winning by 10 at home. The last meeting was a 10-point loss for the Shock in New York. The Shock will be playing this one with revenge. You can't ignore the fact that in this one, the Liberty is going on the road after reassembling at home for back-to-back nights after a long layoff. This will be the first back-to-back of the season for the Liberty and after a month off, they will feel it here. We like the Shock at home here.
