Free Wnbapicks - August 26, 2010Last night we called the outright upset of Atlanta at +180 over Washington, capping off the opening night of the WNBA playoffs 3-0, earning our $100 players a cool $1,000 (+10 units). To celebrate, we are hitting the hardwood with three more premium picks today, including dual 5-unit plays.
![]() Today's WNBA Basketball Picks: The New York Liberty came out of nowhere to finish with a 22-12 record for the season. They closed the season on an 18-5 run. They will face the Indiana Fever who also finished at 22-12 for the season, and have what I believe is the better team here. The Fever went all the way to the WNBA Finals a year ago, and still are a dangerous team. Last years' team swept Washington in the first round, winning straight-up on the road. Sometimes when you play on a high level for too long there is nothing left in the tank when the season starts to taper down. New York showed some of those signs losing to Washington, and needing overtime to beat Connecticut at home by just a single point. I like Indiana in this one.Game: Indiana at New York (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Indiana +150 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 3) These teams concluded the regular season both sporting 22-12 marks, but got here in different ways. I think New York spent a lot of emotional, and physical energy playing at a high level for so long and it began to show late with a loss to Washington, and a near loss at home to Connecticut by 1 in overtime. Indiana has the pedigree going all the way to the WNBA finals a year ago, and obviously the experience. This team swept in the first round a year ago, winning straight-up on the road in the process in their first series. The last time these teams met in August, Indiana was embarrassed 78-57. As a result, I love their motivation here (the Fever are 8-1 straight-up this season revenging a road loss). I like Indiana to win game one.Game: San Antonio at Phoenix (9:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on San Antonio +9 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6) I have a lot of respect for this Phoenix team, but no fear playing against them. This team is not even close to the team that went the distance last year and cut down the nets, but are getting treated like they are. This is a team that looked like last years team for eight games this season when they went on a 7-1 run. They finished that run at 9-2. Take a look at the bulk of their season outside of that run, they went 6-17. Those 23 games represent 68% of the season! Remember Chicago had a stretch of going 8-4 this season and finished last, so don't be fooled by 11 games - 23 games paints a much clearer picture and the Mercury are way overpriced here. The Silver Stars don't forget they won in Phoenix this season, and have enough to stay close here. I like San Antonio in this one. ![]() WNBA Basketball Picks Resources:
