The WNBA playoffs open tonight with the Dream taking on the Mystics in Washington. The Mystics closed the season strong, winning their last six and also won their last five at home. They have beaten Atlanta three straight times, so I'm sure the Dream is aware of that. As intense as a playoff game typically is, I expect Atlanta to be playing with a chip here. Historically, home favorites in WNBA playoffs games have done very poorly, as the talent level in this league is pretty even. The Dream has found their way on the road where they have won each of their last four straight-up. The Mystics are the league's worst team when coming off two days rest at 6-21-1 ATS in their last 28. I like Atlanta with the points in a close game that could go either way.

The Dream were one of five teams to own a winning road record. They finished the season in weak fashion and now face a hot Mystics club that finished very strong. Does this mean Washington is the better team here? No. The playoffs are here and Atlanta will be back at their "A" game and if they bring that, they can certainly win this game by outscoring the Mystics. Washington won the season finale by 9 points. That could make them a bit overconfident, motivating Atlanta for revenge. I see value on the Dream here on the moneyline.
Game: Los Angeles at Seattle (11:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 2 units on Seattle -9.5 (-110) (risk 2 to win 1.8)
The Seattle Storm had one problem this season, they put the division away so early the second half of the season was just an exercise with no games meaning anything. The 34 game season saw the Storm win the division by 13 games. Los Angeles stood at 5-15 through 20 games and appeared destined for the sidelines when the playoffs started. They went 8-6 in their last 14, hardly a huge surge, but by default of so many bad teams in the West here they are in the playoffs with the worst record ever at 13-21. A closer look at their 8-6 finish shows they beat nobody with a winning record and six of the eight came against Minnesota and Tulsa, with the other two vs Chicago and Connecticut. Basically this team won their only game vs a winning team all the way back in May! Seattle in this one
