Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:
Game: Chicago at Atlanta (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Chicago +8.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)
When the games become important, as this one does to Atlanta, you can always expect the line to be juiced as this one is as well. The Dream played Chicago twice at home this year with the largest line being -7, so this one has been padded for sure. The Dream have really limped down the stretch, losing four of their last five. They are also just 6-9 in their last 15. Chicago was just whacked at home by this Dream team, so they may have some fire to put the lights out on the Dream's playoffs hopes, playing loose and free. I like Chicago in this one.
Game: Indiana at New York (7:30 PM Eastern)Pick: 2 units on New York -2.5 (-110) (risk 2 to win 1.8)Pick: 2 units on Game Total UNDER 151.5 -110 (risk 2 to win 1.8)
The New York Liberty have been the best team in the WNBA over the second half of the season. The Liberty have worked into playoff contention with a 15-4 mark over their last 19, including eight in a row. The team is really doing it at both ends, but when you hold a Phoenix team that needs wins to 69 points, that says a lot about the level of commitment on the defensive end. Indiana is no slouch as they have won five in a row. They are another defensively-intense team that has held 21 opponents to the 70s or less on the season. The Fever have had their problems with good teams on the road standing in at 2-4 playing on the road vs. a winning team. New York has everything going right now, including the home court, which will be decisive here. Playoffs atmosphere, and defense will prevail. I like New York and the UNDER.
Game: Washington at San Antonio (8:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on San Antonio -1.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)
The thought may seem absurd, but at 12-19 the San Antonio Silver Stars still have a flicker of playoffs hope. The West is just so weak. The Washington Mystics looked like a lock for the playoffs, but a 7-7 stretch late in the season has put those desires in jeopardy. They also have not been taking care of business on the road at just 5-8 in their last 13, and remember this San Antonio team beat them at home by 4 earlier in the season. The Silver Stars have played .500 in their last 10 at home, and have a history of being tough here. This is a do-or-die game for them on their home court, and I like them to get it done vs. a sputtering Mystics team. San Antonio gets the call.
Game: Minnesota at Seattle (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 2 units on Seattle -6.5 (-110) (risk 2 to win 1.8)
The oddsmakers are having a tough time here trying to figure out just what posture this Seattle team will take in this one. Will they come to play, or just go through the motions trying to avoid any injury issues? Seattle is already set in the playoffs with home court included. The Storm, like any team that is unbeaten, is not going to lose at home, and I would expect them to put Minnesota away either early, or late in this one. The Storm has cemented a playoffs spot long ago, but still have won by 6 or more in eight of their last nine home games. They lost two in a row on the road where they really don't care, but this one means something to them, so I like them in this spot. Seattle gets the call.
Results: 3-2
