Wnba Basketball Picks - August 13, 2010

We hit our 4-unit play yesterday as Los Angeles won outright as a +6.5 dog. Our WNBA premium picks are 38-30 over the last two months for +18 units. Today we hit the floor with five premium WNBA picks, including a 4-unit play.

Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Huge game tonight in Atlanta with the second and final playoffs spot on the line. These teams are in a dead heat with two weeks to go in the season. The Liberty have come out of nowhere with six straight wins, and eight of nine. It should be interesting to note that the one loss occurred against Atlanta in this very same building. It marked the third straight time they have lost here. These teams should both be amped-up for this one, and that usually means you will see more of a challenge on the defensive end. The Liberty sure have displayed that in their six-game winning streak with no team getting to 80 points. The Liberty have been slowed off of long rest as they are just 2-9-1 ATS after 3+ days off. I like defense and Atlanta here and will go with both Atlanta and the UNDER.

I think most of the WNBA would agree that no one wants to face last year's WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury in the playoffs. They apparently took the first half of the season off, but have roared right back into a playoffs spot with a late charge. The Mercury are 9-4 over their last 13 games, and will be motivated off a home drubbing by the Fever less than a week ago. The Fever have not played well other than that game in Phoenix, covering two of their last seven, and splitting their last six straight-up. The Mercury have purpose, and a punch to rise in this spot, logging a 22-8 ATS mark in their last 30 on the road. Phoenix gets the call.

Seattle is the team to beat this year in the WNBA and they have done it with defense. Taking out Phoenix, who simply plays to score and nothing else and over the last 17 games, the Storm is allowing just over 70 points per game. That would mean if those numbers hold true, Seattle would have to reach 86 in this one, something they have done just once on the road all season with the exception again of Phoenix. Taking out the Phoenix game, this Seattle team has played just one over on the road since June 18, so I like my chances here, and will play the UNDER.

The Tulsa Shock has not delivered many to the win column this season, logging just five wins. But San Antonio isn't much better with just 11 in the win column on the campaign. I can hardly see any motivation here for San Antonio down the stretch, as there is nothing about this Tulsa team that is going to get their juices flowing. This cuts into the edge of San Antonio's peak performance area as their biggest win all season has been by 16 points. With nothing to play for here, and an opponent that isn't going to inspire anything, I like Tulsa in this one.
