Today's WNBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Connecticut at Washington (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Washington -4 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

The oddsmakers making Washington a 4-point favorite doesn't make a lot of sense when taking a look at what this Connecticut team has done on the road. If you consider the 3-point home court advantage, we are left with 1. The problem is that Connecticut has beaten LA and Phoenix when they were slumping, Tulsa, and their lone good road win was vs. Indiana. Washington has held teams to an average of -13.1 points per game from their season scoring average at home this season throuogh 13 games, and that isn't going to get it done for Connecticut, who has lost nine road games by 4 or more already. Washington gets the call.

This Seattle team is picking apart the WNBA and will be the odds-on favorite to cut down the nets come playoff time. They aren't explosive offensively, but precise, and their defense is a cut above which contains their games to medium-sized totals. They have only played to games totaling 167 points or more six times this season, and all but one of them was vs. what I call an "extreme" opponent. Phoenix is one example of a team that simply plays reckless and fast on both ends, and four of the six were vs. them. Tulsa is another extreme - an example of an extremely bad team, which makes five. The only legit game this team played over this many points was vs. New York, and that took 59% shooting from 3-point land by Seattle, and 50+% shooting from the field by New York. Seattle has put so much distance between themselves and the rest of the West that they have been cruising and this is a huge game for Atlanta, and just the presence of Seattle will get them going. I like Atlanta and the UNDER here.

When it comes to defense, the Indiana Fever do it better than anyone. They have a lot to play for here with so many teams crowded at the top of the WNBA East - no game can be taken lightly. That could spell problems for a shorthanded LA team that isn't very efficient on the offensive end to begin with. The Sparks have not played many at home vs. winning teams since losing Candace Parker for the season. But when they have, they have failed to get out of the 60s, putting a total in the low 150s to the challenge. The Sparks own one win all season vs. a team with a winning record on the season, and that was way back in game four (with Candace Parker). I like Indiana and the UNDER in this one.
