The Los Angeles Sparks and the San Antonio Silver Spurs are definitely not the teams that were expected to be battling it out for the Western Conference crown as both have below .500 records, and appear to be heading nowhere. The Sparks have had all kinds of issues and are struggling on offense where they have scored less than 70 points in nine of their games. The Silver Spurs remain a tough defensive team, but truly lack the ability of the team that took the floor a year ago. The Sparks have played to an 8-3-1 mark at home to the UNDER, and these teams both hungry for a win and have more defense to offer than offense. As a result, I will go with the UNDER here, as well as the Sparks. San Antonio struggled on the road last year, even when they were the top team in the West. Those struggles have been magnified with the decline of this team from a year ago. They have a 2-7 road mark with one of the wins by a single point, while getting blown out in five of them by double-digits. Their average loss of the seven road defeats has been by 10.6 points per game. I'm playing the Sparks here as well as the UNDER.

The Detroit Shock was always a defensive team under Bill Laimbeer. That has changed considerably under Coach Mahorn as the Shock have changed their entire approach to games, and where it has shown up the loudest is in the scoring column. The Shock reached the 90s just five times all last season, but has done so in four of their last eight games. The Liberty have also taken the same path as they are now playing high-scoring games, seeing each of their last six go over the total. A team that struggled in the 50s and 60s in their first 12 games, has suddenly scored 73+ in each of their last six. This one goes OVER the total.
