Nhl Picks Free - November 18, 2008

We took one on the chin last night. Today we look to bounce-back with a pair of premium NHL plays.

Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: Edmonton at Columbus (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Edmonton +146 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 5.8)

The Edmonton Oilers have been dealt a difficult schedule to open the NHL season, as this will be their 14th road game to just five home games. The good news is that they are getting used to it and have now won four of their last seven on the road. That is better than what the Bluejackets have accomplished in their last seven played on home ice where they are 3-4. The Oilers have feasted against teams that aren't finding the net and that have scored two goals or less in their last game, where they are 11-3. The Bluejackets sure don't take teams with a losing record seriously as they are just 14-39 in their last 53 against teams with a losing record. We have a live dog here, and I'm backing the Oilers to steal one.

Game: Florida at Tampa Bay (7:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Tampa Bay -153 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2)

Neither of these two teams is off to a good start. Florida has been even worse on the road where they are losers in five of their last six games while getting out-scored 20-11, or almost a 2-1 margin. Tampa Bay has already played in seven contests where the game was decided in OT, or a shootout. Since their 0-5 start to the season the Lightning has only lost at home to Detroit (12-2-3) and San Jose (16-3-1) which are a much greater caliber of team than they will be seeing tonight. I like the Lightning in this one.

Results: 1-1

The Rangers are playing tough on home ice as witnessed by their 20 goals allowed in their 11 at home. That works out to be 1.82 goals per game, and puts pressure on the opponent to find the win column...
