Today, we roll out a pair of 4-unit picks from the NHL playoffs. Over the last two weeks, our NHL picks are hitting just under 60% for +4.1 units.
Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: Carolina at Pittsburgh (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Pittsburgh -190 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 2.1)
The Pittsburgh Penguins are now one series away from returning to the Stanley Cup Finals, and open the series at home vs. Carolina. Pittsburgh opened their series at 0-2 with the Caps, but ran off four of five to take the series. The Hurricane's jumped up 3-1 vs. the Bruins, and needed OT in game seven to pull out the series win. Carolina allowed 10 goals in the last three of that series - a far cry from the 11 they allowed in the previous seven playoff games. That is a sign of trouble as the Penguins’ offense is really in attack mode and has scored 32 in their last eight playoff games, or four per game. The Penguins are very tough at home where they have been 57-19 in their last 76 as a home-ice favorite and 25-7 within the range of this moneyline offering. They are also 16-5 in their last 21 as a playoff favorite, so I will back them here in game one.
Game: Carolina at Pittsburgh (7:35 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Pittsburgh -1.5 goals +160 (puckline) (risk 4 to win 6.4)
To play on the NHL puckline, you better make sure you have a team that can score. The Penguins certainly fit the bill there. They have amassed 32 playoff goals over their last eight playoffs games, for four per game, while the Hurricanes have been lapsing at the defensive end, allowing 10 goals in their last three. This has not been a comfortable building for Carolina as they have been outscored here 15-5 over the last four games and three of the four were by three goals or more. I'm going with Pittsburgh on the puckline here.
Results: 1-1
