Nhl Predictions - May 16, 2010What a night! We nailed both of our picks on Philadelphia's history-making victory in the semis. You can bet we are ready to get back on the ice tonight. We open the NHL Conference Finals with a pair of premium selections including a 5-unit pick from the East.
![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: These two teams were supposed to meet here. San Jose, the No. 1 seed in the West, lost two of their first three playoff games to Colorado. But they have since gone 7-1, disposing of the Avalanche and Red Wings. Chicago, the No. 2 seed, also spotted their opening round opponent a 2-1 lead. The Blackhawks went on to beat Nashville in six games and then beat Vancouver in six. So now we have the top two seeds in the West in a series that could really go either way. I like Chicago's chances at stealing game one here. The Blackhawks are 28-20 this season on the road, outscoring opponents by nearly a goal per game. The Sharks were great at home this season but they haven't looked especially sharp in the playoffs. They never beat Detroit handily, winning all four of their games by just one goal. San Jose can score, but this season Chicago is 21-8 vs. teams that score 3+ goals per game. In their last 16 road games vs. winning teams, they have gone 12-4. I'm backing the Blackhawks here.Game: Montreal at Philadelphia (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Philadelphia -130 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 3.9) The Canadiens have been this postseason's greatest story. The NHL's most storied franchise has taken the hockey world by storm by knocking off the No. 1 seed and the defending Stanley Cup champions to get here. We are now left with a very unlikely scenario - the No. 7 seed vs. the No. 8 seed for the right to play for the Cup. Clearly Montreal is better than we thought. But, I really like them to fall to the Flyers here in game one. The Canadiens are still a losing road team this season and Philly has been great in this building, going 28-18, holding opponents to 2.5 goals per game. Despite their opening round wins, Montreal has allowed more goals in the playoffs than they have scored, so on average, they really haven't been playing great hockey. Compare that to Philly who has outscored their playoff opponents 3.1 to 2.4 on average. While the Canadiens are the better story, I like the Flyers to win game one. ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
