Hockey Pick - May 14, 2010So far the NHL playoffs have been an exciting tournament to watch as the No. 8 seed Canadiens have sent the two heavy favorites to watch the rest of the playoffs on the couch. And we think another dog makes history tonight. We roll on today with a pair of picks from the NHL's Eastern Conference Semifinals- both 5-units. We enter today's NHL action at 356-270 for +152 units over the last six and a half months.
![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: The Philadelphia Flyers have come back from the dead, after being down in this series three games to none. They have come back to win the last three, and now head to Boston for all the marbles in the series finale. Just two of 161 teams in the NHL have come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series. The last was in 1975 when the Islanders overcame a 3-0 deficit to the Penguins. The Bruins have Tuukka Rask to thank for even being here in the first place, and he once again came up big in game six, stopping a penalty shot. The real story may be the injury to Brian Boucher, who left game five with an MCL sprain and won't return. That left the net minding to Michael Leighton, who has allowed just 30 goals in his last 14 games. He came up big in game five replacing Boucher, stopping all 14 shots in 35:25 seconds. He also came up huge in game six, stopping all but one shot. Leighton is the difference here, stopping 44 of 45 shots, and his last time in Boston, he stopped 23 of 24 in regulation. I will go with the Flyers in this one to make history.Game: Philadelphia at Boston (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Philadelphia +1.5 goals -300 (puckline) (risk 5 to win 1.7) The Boston Bruins’ offense averaged 4 goals per game through the first four, but have been squeezed in the last two games, managing only 1. Tuukka Rask was the difference maker for Boston, but he is starting to show a few cracks. The Flyers now have Michael Leighton, who I think is the difference maker. Filling in for injured Brian Boucher, Leighton has been huge between the pipes, allowing 1 goal in nearly 100 minutes over the last two games. He has also stopped 23 of 24 in regulation in his last appearance in Boston. That certainly puts the Flyers in a valued spot, in what should be a game seven played close to the vest, and getting +1.5 is huge behind Leighton, and a confident Flyers team. I’m on Philadelphia on the puckline. ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
