Hockey Game Predictions - May 04, 2008
We dropped our pick last night. We're now 31-18 for +20.2 units the past two weeks. Today we have picks in both games...
Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: New York Rangers at Pittsburgh (2:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Pittsburgh -170 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 2.4)
It's no surprise we like the way the Penguins are playing right now. They suffered their first setback last game as they were shut out in New York. No worries. We think that will motivate them here and propel them to their eighth playoff win in nine tries. Not that they have needed extra motivation, as they have outscored their playoff opponents by an average score of 3.5 to 1.9. But that shutout loss will provide motivation! That New York win at home doesn't change the fact that the Rangers are 20-26 on the road this year. They are also 9-145 this season after a game in which 3 or fewer goals wer scored. Pittsburgh is 12-2 revenging a road loss this season and we think they get their revenge.
Game: San Jose at Dallas (9:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Dallas -135 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.2)
Can San Jose continue what would be an amazing comeback? They needed overtime last game to stave off elimination for the second straight game. They managed just 2 goals in regulation, the fifth straight game that they couldn't get past the 2-goal mark. That win doesn't change the fact, in our minds, that Dallas is the better team. The Sharks have left everything they can on the ice the past two games in must-win games. They still couldn't score. How much longer can they keep this up? They will eventually wear down and lose this series. We like that to happen tonight as we expect the Dallas defense to keep up its tremendous play. San Jose, even after those two wins, is 3-9 this season vs. great defensive teams (those holding opponents to under 28 shots on goal and 15% or less power play conversion). The Stars are 12-0 this season revenging two straight losses vs. an opponent this season. Make it 13 straight.

We've spent most of these playoffs going against must-win situations. This one we are embracing. The Canadiens return to Carey Price in the net who has been inconsistent but who has posted tw...

San Jose staved off elimination with a 2-1 squeaker last game. It was the fourth straight game in which they scored 2 or fewer goals vs. the Stars. Dallas is the better, more motivated team. They aren...
