Hockey Predictions - May 03, 2009The Canucks bet looked great after one period last night but 6 goals by Chicago later and that was toast. Wow. Today I like both games...
![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: Detroit took a 1-0 lead in the series with a 3-2 game one victory. I like them again in this game and will roll with a puckline pick to get the +140 odds. Detroit has won 25 of the last 34 meetings between these clubs inclluding seven of ten the past three seasons. On the season they are 30-14 at home, winning by over 1 goal per game on average. In the playoffs the Redwings have stepped up their game going 5-0 and winning on average 4.2 to 1.8. The Ducks did a great job surprising the top-seeded Sharks but asking them to do that two series in a row will prove a daunting task. The Redwings know how to use momentum in their favor. They are 30-5 the past two seasons at home coming off a home win. I'll take Deteroit to win this one by 2+ goals.Game: Carolina at Boston (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Boston -200 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 2.5) We cashed with Boston in game one and will repeat our backing of them tonight in game two. Carolina is now just 4-4 in the playoffs, averaging only 2.2 goals per game. That's not going to get it done. Their offense just doesn't have enough firepower. On the season they are averaging just 8.7% SOG conversion and that's gotten worse as the competition has heated up in the playoffs. Boston has posted a perfect 5-0 playoff record, holding Montreal and Carolina to just 1.4 goals per game. There's no reason they can't win here. The Bruins this season are an incredible 43-15 vs. teams that allow 18%+ power-play conversion. They are 50-20 overall as a favorite, and 19-5 off a home win by 2+ goals. When coming off two straight wins by 2+ goals, the Bruins are 20-3 this year! Yes, -200 is steep but in this case, it's worth it.Game: Carolina at Boston (7:35 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Boston -1.5 goals +160 (puckline) (risk 2 to win 3.2) Just as we did last game, gonna back the Bruins for a big win at very nice odds. Boston is 21-6 vs. the puckline at home vs. good offensive teams this year (those averaging 30+ shots on goal per game). They are also 15-4 vs. the puckline the past two seasons when coming off a home blowout win by 3+ goals. This season Boston is 32-7 vs. the puckline after a win by 2+ goals. I look for the Bruins to carry their momentum from last game and the Montreal series into this one and get another big win. ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
