Premium Picks

We rate each pick 1 to 5 units with 5 being the strongest play (read about units).
Risk 1% of your bankroll per unit (never risk more than 5% of total bankroll on any pick).

Game: New Jersey at Ottawa (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Ottawa -166 (risk 4 to win 2.4)

Ottawa took a 2-1 lead with a win on Monday. They are now clearly in control after winning one in New Jersey. While lower seeded, the Senators are the better team right now. New Jersey's Martin Brodeur gets the accolades but Ottawa's Ray Emery is playing better right now. He's posted two straight home shutouts and stopped 25 shots in Monday's game. And, at home, he's been every bit as good as Brodeur this season. The Senators are leading all playoff teams in power play conversion at 24%. They are scoring 3.4 and allowing just 2.1 goals per game. Winning teams instilled as an underdog that are revening a shutout loss win only about 27% of the time in the NHL. We like the Senators to get the win here.

Game: Detroit at San Jose (10:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on San Jose -141 (risk 2 to win 1.4)

Detroit is simply not a team to back on the road. They lost two of three on the road in round one of the playoffs and they lost on Monday here in San Jose. On the season now they are a very mediocre 22-23 away from home. They are scoring just 2.4 goals per game in the playoffs. San Jose was 28-16 at home this season and they are playing defense as well as Detroit right now. They are a team that performs up to their competition and they do very well vs. high-quality opponents. They need to win here to hold on to the lead they gained by winning in Detroit. They know Detroit is tough at home and don't want to go back there tied 2-2. We look for San Jose to manage more goals than Detroit in what should be a defensive battle.
