Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: Anaheim at Detroit (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Detroit -1.5 goals +130 (puckline) (risk 3 to win 3.9)

The Detroit Redwings advanced in their quest to win back-to-back Stanley Cups by impressively sweeping Columbus. The Red Wings count at the end of the series was 18 goals for, and just seven against - that is an amazing 2.75 goals per game. So it is needless to say, it was a no-contest series. They quickly set aside the notion that this team that walked through the last 10 games of the regular season with a 3-7 mark was ready to be had. The Ducks have to be pleased with their 4-2 verdict over the Sharks, winning the series on the road at The Shark Tank which is never an easy task. It won't get any easier as the Ducks have met a chamber of horrors playing in Detroit where they are just an uninspiring 6-22-1 in the last 29 meetings there. That includes a 5-2 loss to the Wings in Detroit this season. This is the Redwings series to lose, and if you look at what they did in their series against Columbus and their track record against Anaheim here, I’m not going to think about going with them here. Detroit makes a loud statement in game one and I'll take them on the puckline here.

Game: Carolina at Boston (7:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 5 units on Boston -200 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 2.5)
The Boston Bruins open their series vs. the Carolina Hurricanes on home ice. The Bruins got here via a 4-0 whitewashing of the Canadiens, a series in which they pounded the Habs by a count of 17-6. The Bruins have been a force on home ice where they have allowed an average of fewer than two goals per game in their last 16. Recently, that mark has been even better as they are 7-0 at home in their last seven and have allowed a stingy 10 goals or 1.4 per game during that stretch. It isn't just the defense that is carrying this team, the offense is certainly pulling its weight as they have scored 29 times in the last seven games, good for better than four per contest. The Hurricanes were extended to seven games in their series with the Devils, and prevailed in game seven with a 4-3 verdict. The Bruins have been a much more formidable opponent for the Hurricanes. The four games they played on the season showed four wins for the Bruins. They didn't just win they destroyed them by a final four-game score of 18-6. The Bruins have been hot, and have the blueprint for taking down the Hurricanes. I look for them to win game one.
Game: Carolina at Boston (7:40 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on Boston -1.5 goals +160 (puckline) (risk 2 to win 3.2)
It is hard to over look the facts leading up to this one, which show plenty of value on the puckline. The Bruins margin of victory vs. the Habs in the opening round was almost three goals per game, and the Bruins have handled the Hurricanes with ease this season, to the tune of 18-6 over the four meetings, or by an eye-opening three goals per game. It is hard to pass up plus odds with a team that is rolling right now that has rolled over its opponent all season long. I'll take Boston on the puckline.

Results: 2-1
