Free Hockey Pick - March 29, 2008
Split the picks last night. Tonight we like the board and have four picks...
Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: Montreal at Toronto (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Toronto +100 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 6 +105 (risk 3 to win 3.2)
This is expected to be a high scoring affair. We think it will be lower than most expect and we like the home team. Recent play would indicate this game going over the total but on the season, Montreal's defense is better than it has shown recently and Toronto's isn't as bad as it has shown lately either. Prior to the last three games in which they gave up 18 goals, Toronto held five of their prior seven opponents to 2 goals or less. The Leafs are 15-11 this season vs. winning teams (8-4 in their last 12). They are also 12-5 vs. the last 17 teams they have faced with poor defenses (those allowing 30+ shots on goal per game). Montreal is just 2-10 the past two seasons on the road after having won 6+ of their last eight games. Toronto is 16-7 UNDER this season vs. teams that average 3+ goals per game. Montreal is 15-8 UNDER this season off a road win including 8-1 UNDER if the win was by one goal.
Game: Washington at Florida (7:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Florida +100 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3)
Florida is playing good defense while Washington is not. The Panthers are very good on the power play converting 19.5% of opportunities overall and 21.4% at home. Those kinds of teams have their way with the Caps who are just 18-42 the past two seasons vs. teams that convert 19%+ ont eh power play. Florida is 18-9 the past two seasons after scoring 2 goals or less in two straight games.
Game: Chicago at St. Louis (8:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on St. Louis +105 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3.2)
Chicago is just 16-23 on the road this season, averaging 3.2 goals allowed per game. Over thier last five games they have averaged just 2.4 goals per game. St. Louis' offense is terrible on the road but decent at home. And, at home their defense is great (2.3 goals per game allowed). This is why they are jsut 12-30 on the road but 19-19 at home. The last three seasons the Blackhawks are just 1-11 on the road vs. weak offenses (those averaging under 27 shots per game). We like the home dog here.
Results: 1-2
