Game: Washington at Carolina (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Washington +110 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3.3)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 6 +105 (risk 3 to win 3.2)
Washington is making a strong playoff push behind the play of Alex Ovechkin. They trail the Bruins by two points for the final playoff spot in hte East. On Friday Ovechkin became the first player in over a decade to reach 60 goals in a season (Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr last did it in 1995-6). Washington's weakness on the road this season has been defense but they are playing good defense right now having held their last five opponents to an average of 2.4 goals per game. Carolina has their own defensive problems allowing 3.0 per game at home. Washington is 19-11 this season vs. winning teams. In their last 15 games vs. poor defensive opponents (those allowing 2.9+ goals per game), the Caps are 11-4 UNDER. That includes an 8-2 UNDER mark vs. teams allowing 3+ per game. They are also 12-4 UNDER this season after winning their last game by 2+ goals. We like Washington and the UNDER here.
Game: Vancouver at Calgary (9:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 5 -115 (risk 3 to win 2.6)
Calgary is all about low-scoring games but this total is set so low we think it goes OVER. The Canucks average just 2.6 goals per game this year but they are 11-9 OVER in division games this season, scoring 2.9 goals per game. Vancouver is 17-8 OVER off a loss this season including 10-1 OVER off a home loss! We'll back this one to get over 5 goals.
Game: San Jose at Phoenix (10:30 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Phoenix +120 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3.6)
San Jose rocks o n the road but they don't do so well vs. division foes against whom they are just 12-13 and scoring only 2.5 goals per game. Phoenix is mediocre overall but does amazingly well in division games. The Coyotes are 17-9 vs. division opponents, holding them to 2.5 goals per game. We like their chances here as a result and we'll back them as a home dog.
