Nhl Picks - March 19, 2009
We took the night off from the ice last night. Today we are back with three more NHL picks...
Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: Los Angeles at Boston (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Los Angeles +225 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 6.8)
The LA Kings have been shutout nine times this season and oddly enough, six of those occurred at home, while only three have been on the road. The offense has picked up some steam, and they have now averaged over three goals a game in their last seven - a far cry from the regular shutouts. They are now 8-8 in their last 16 on the road, so they are a team playing at a higher level. The Bruins have simply run out of gas as the season winds to a close. They have just six wins to show for their last 18 games, and are just 2-6 in their last eight vs. the West. Earlier in the season, this moneyline made sense, but not now. The value and choice go to the Kings.
Game: St. Louis at Vancouver (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on St. Louis +155 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 4.7)
The St. Louis Blues have really picked it up since mid-January, as what was once a losing team has played over .500 hockey in their last 26 games. That includes 7-4 in their last 11. Since an eight game losing streak, The Canucks have been playing superb hockey over their last 19 games themselves. The Blues have become a team that bounces back off a poor offensive showing of two goals or less as they are 4-0 in their last fouor after such a poor offensive effort. They are playing at a level worthy of better odds than this right now, so I will go with them as a live dog here.
Game: Nashville at San Jose (10:30 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Nashville +225 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 6.8)
Early in the season, the Sharks, and especially at home in the Shark Tank, were unbeatable. That invincibility has vanished, and San Jose has been had frequently of late. They just have nine wins in their last 22 games, and are just even up at 4-4 at home in their last eight. The Predators on the up-tick with eight wins in their last 12, provide a formidable opponent, as the two teams have taken different turns down the stretch. As well as the Predators are playing, they have dominated the West going 8-1 in their last nine. The Sharks are showing fatigue down the stretch, with a 1-6 mark in their last seven off just a single day of rest. I'm backing the Predators in this one.
Results: 1-2
