Hockey Picks - March 16, 2010Our lone NHL pick last night ended as a push - no harm, no foul. Today we move on with four premium NHL picks.
![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: Game: Montreal at New York Rangers (7:35 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on New York Rangers -140 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.1) The New York Rangers snapped a four-game winless streak and have now won two in a row. It should be noted that the four losses included two on home ice, but those were both decided in OT and both vs. opponents at the top of their respective division standings. Half of the Rangers last eight home opponents have been division leaders, so this team is that is playing better than the numbers might otherwise indicate. The Canadiens have won five straight, but are facing their most vulnerable situation here. They are 18-43 when facing an opponent who allowed 2 goals or less in their last game. They have also met a bad fate in New York, dropping six of their last seven in the Big Apple. New York gets this one.Game: Edmonton at Minnesota (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Edmonton +235 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 4.7) The Oilers have lost plenty, but they have reached a point of being clearly under-valued. They were rarely playing at +200 odds, none through their first 26 games, and just once through their first 41. Then suddenly - 10 straight losses at +200 or better, but they are now 2-2 in their last four in the +200s. The offense is alive after scoring 4 just one time in 23 games. Now the Oilers have produced 4 goals in two of their last three, with the third game reaching 3. They are ripe to steal one as they are playing better offensively than they have all season. The Wild certainly hasn't been to good taking down big numbers as their last three as a chalk of -165 or higher they have lost them all. Their 2-7 mark in their last nine playing for the third time in four days leaves them vulnerable here as well. Edmonton gets the call.Game: Edmonton at Minnesota (8:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Edmonton +1.5 goals -120 (puckline) (risk 4 to win 3.3) The Minnesota Wild has been a favorite of -165 or higher just three times since early February, and have lost them all. When you consider that the Wild owns just 13 wins in 68 games this season by 2 goals or more, and are just 2-7 in their last nine period and playing for the third time in four nights, there is a lot of value in the puckline here favoring Edmonton. The Oilers may not be winning a lot, but this is a good spot for them on the puckline, so I'll go with them and the +1.5. Results: 1-3 ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
