Nhl Picks - March 14, 2010We had another rough night on the NHL ice as we were blanked 0-3. Today we fire back with a trio of premium picks including an early 5-unit pick.
![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: Chicago is heading towards their first division title in 17 years. The Capitals are having an outstanding year as well, but they are slumping right now having lost three in a row on the road and five of nine overall. They have already clinched the Southeast and own a 14-point cushion over Pittsburgh for the Eastern Conference #1 seed so it's not big surprise to see them let off the gas a bit. Fifteen of their 23 losses have come on the road where their defense just isn't very good (3.1 goals per game allowed). They are facing a team here that wins on average by 1.2 goals per game at home. I like Chicago, the more motivated team, and certainly the equal of Washington here at home, to get it done.Game: Washington at Chicago (12:35 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Chicago -1.5 goals +230 (puckline) (risk 2 to win 4.6) Washington has clinched their division and they are cruising to the top spot in the East. They simply don't have a lot to play for right now and it shows. Chicago meanwhile is fighting for their division so I think they bring the better effort here. At home this team has been great, going 26-8 and winning on average by a score of 3.5 to 2.3. The Blackhawks offense has been clicking lately, averaging 4.0 goals per game over their last five. Washington's road defense is weak and Chicago is good again teams like that having gone 32-11 vs. teams allowing 30+ SOG per game. I think Chicago has a good shot at winning this one by 2+ goals.Game: Toronto at New York Islanders (5:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Toronto -110 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.7) The Islanders somehow found some offense to win last night, but in their prior four games they managed just eight total goals. Despite their 4-2 win last night, New York has been outscored on average their last five games by a score of 2.4 to 3.2. Toronto is another bad team that isn't going to make the playoffs, but at least they are playing better hockey of late. They have won four of five and in their last three, they have scored 14 goals. They have a little extra motivation here after suffering a 3-1 loss to New York the last time they met. I like the Leafs here. ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
