Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: San Jose at Nashville (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Nashville +120 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 4.8)
The Sharks keep winning. Can they do it in Nashville. Yes, but we think it's time their run came to an end. Their streak is already tied for longest this NHL season. The fact that seven of their nine wins have come on the road is truly amazing. But how long can this go on? Last game they barely kept things going, needing a goal with 29 seconds left to tie it, leading to a shootout-win. The Predators are 20-14 at home, scoring 3.1 goals per game here. They are off a 3-4 loss to Detroit and under Barry Trotz, this team is 61-34 at home off a game in which 7+ goals were scored. We like Nashville here, a solid team that is quite good at home, in the dog role.
Game: St. Louis at Edmonton (9:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on St. Louis +135 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 4.1)
The Oilers are off two straight OT games and could be in for a letdown here vs. the Blues. But St. Louis can win this one. They are 7-4 vs. the Oilders over the past three seasons inclduing 4-1 here in Edmonton. Road dogs of -100 to -150 coming off three straight losses often catch the host sleepwalking as they are a 50-50 proposition (195-191 over the past decade). The Oilers' defense is suspect (3.1 per game allowed on the season and 3.6 per game over their last five). Edmonton is just 4-10 the past two seasons after having won 5+ of their last seven games. Look for a letdown by the Oilers and a surprise Blues win.
