Free Nhl Hockey Picks - March 07, 2010

Detroit is 37-24 UNDER on the season and they are facing an excellent defense here. Chicago has allowed just 2.2 goals per game in home games this season (2.1 in division games overall going 11-6 to the UNDER in these). Chicago has gone OVER in six straight games but home teams off 5+ straight OVERs have gone UNDER 64% of the time the last five seasons (79-44 UNDER). The Red Wings are 21-10 UNDER this season vs. good offensive teams that score 2.9+ goals per game. They are also 11-4 UNDER after a win by 2+ goals. I like the UNDER a lot here.

Pittsburgh may take Boston a bit lightly and that could spell trouble. But, the Bruins are now a .500 road team and they have won five in a row on the road, scoring 17 goals in the process. There is value in this line. Boston owns the better defense here and that will give them a valid shot. Believe it or not, this is a good match-up for Boston. When playing on the road the past three seasons vs. high-scoring teams (those averaging 2.9+ goals per game), the Bruins are actually 36-29. Overall the past two seasons when facing teams that score 3+ goals per game, Boston is 34-19! Meanwhile, the Penguins are 7-12 the past two seasons when facing teams that score under 2.6 goals per game. I like Boston's shot here. I also like the UNDER. The Bruins allow just 2.5 goals per game on the road this season, where they are 15-11 to the UNDER. Pittsburgh is 17-14 UNDER this year at home. When facing winning teams over the past three seasons, the Bruins are 55-35 UNDER. That includes a 21-10 UNDER mark vs. teams at .600 or better. Pittsburgh is 27-12 UNDER vs. teams that score under 2.6 goals per game over the same span. Finally, Boston is 12-4 UNDER this season revenging a loss. Take the Bruins and the UNDER.

Boston has proven to be a good road team this season, going .500 away from home. They have a good matchup here as they have performed very well in recent years vs. high-scoring teams. They are 34-19 vs. teams that score 3+ goals per game over the past three seasons. When playing a road game coming off a road win, the Bruins are 22-13 to the puck line the past three seasons. They should be able to hang in this game and keep it close. Take Boston on the puck line.

New Jersey is 19-11 UNDER on the road this season, averaging just 5.0 total goals per game. Over the past three seasons, the Devils are 59-038 UNDER when facing a losing team. They are 21-12 UNDER this season when facing really bad defenses (those allowing 30+ SOG per game). The Devils are off a bad defensive performance, allowing five to Calgary. That should equate to better defense here as New Jersey is 10-2 UNDER this season after allowing 4+ goals last game. For their part, the Oilers are 10-3 UNDER this season in non-conference games. I like this one to go UNDER.
