Nhl Hockey Picks - March 07, 2008

Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: Edmonton at Columbus (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 5 -125 (risk 3 to win 2.4)

Edmonth is a ridiculous 21-7 OVER on the road this season. They have gone OVER in four straight games and in eight of their last nine. Their recent games have been averaging nearly 7 goals per game. Columbus is a much lower-scoring team, but this total is set very low - too low. The Oilers are 11-4 OVER this season on the road vs. losing teams. They ar also 12-3 OVER when facing good goalies such as Pascal LeClaire (those saving 92%+ of shots on goal). So, yes, Columbus doesn't score a lot and their defense is good. But it shouldn't matter.

San Jose can play on the road (league-best 28-11 mark), but right now Chicago is hot having won 10 of their last 14. They are off three straight wins, the last a very impressive 3-0 win over Anaheim. Chicago's defense at home is nearly as good as San Jose's and they can score more than can the Sharks. Over their last five games, the Blackhawks have won by an average score of 3.2 to 2.0. Chicago is 18-13 this season vs. winning teams and they have a .500 record as an underdog. THey are revenging a road loss and they are 10-5 in that situation this year.

The Predators have gone UNDER just twice in their last 13 games. Their five most recent games have averaged 7. 8 goals apiece. Calgary is just the opposite as they are in a scoring rut but playing excellent defense. Again, we think this total is set too low given how Nashville is playing. Against this Predators defense, we like Calgary to break out of their scoring slump enough to help push this OVER.
