Free Nhl Picks - March 03, 2010

We slipped up on our first day back on the NHL ice going 0-2 yesterday.  We look to come back strong tonight with three premium picks including a 5 unit selection.  Over the season, our 5 unit NHL, NBA and CBB picks are hitting 65% at 100-54.  As for our NHL picks, they are 255-179 (59%) for +152.2 units over the last four months.

Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: Vancouver at Detroit (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Detroit -150 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2)

The Redwings closed with a win before the break, won last night and I could see this team going on a big run. This is a team that over the past seven seasons, including this one, is 186-52 at home, so laying modest odds on a team that comes out in front almost 80% of the time certainly has value all unto itself. This will amazingly mark the tenth straight road game for the Canucks, certainly not an easy place to land. The Canucks have had trouble in Detroit winning just one of their last five here. The Redwings have posted an amazing 234-115 mark in their last 349 as a favorite. Hard to buck those odds, and I'll go with Detroit here.

There is a lot of reasons to like Detroit, especially against a team that has been orphaned from home ice due to the Olympics, and are now playing their tenth straight on the road. The Red Wings have been winning big at home with each of their last four home wins coming by two goals or more, and I also like them on the puckline in this one.

The Anaheim Ducks last played on Valentine's Day due to the Olympic break and really had it going on the defensive end allowing just 2.3 goals a game over their last eight. It has been a similar story for the Avalanche who have allowed just two per game over their last six contests. The Avalanche has, however, struggled to score with just four goals in their last three games. The Avalanche has played to a 39-15-3 mark to the UNDER in their last 57 posted as an underdog of +110 to +150 as well as a 13-3 mark to the UNDER in their last 16 vs the Pacific. Ducks have followed a win by going 22-7 to the UNDER. The last 14 meetings between these clubs has produced a 9-4-1 mark to the UNDER and none of the last four played in Anaheim have topped the total. I'll go with the UNDER here.
