![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: The Toronto Maple Leafs are even-up on the road at 11-11-1 and have more than held their own this season. This is a team that has really tightened things up on the back side of the ice and between the pipes. Toronto allowed 4 goals or more in 15 of their first 34 games, while prior to the break not a single team scored as many as 4 goals against them in their last 12 games. The result has been a 7-1 mark to the UNDER over their last eight games. Pittsburgh has been inconsistent on the offensive end, and after a long break this team is likely to have trouble getting things going. Recently that has been the case vs. a winning team with just one of their last seven vs. a winning club making it OVER the total. Play this one UNDER.Game: Ottawa at Boston (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Ottawa +170 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 3.4) The Boston Bruins shook off the lethargy after an early-season swoon, following their Stanley Cup win a year ago. The Bruins became somewhat invincible, winning 21-of-24 games. They have since taken the pedal off the metal, and have gone a more realistic 7-6 in their last 13 games. The long break should re-enhance the lethargy we saw going into the break. Ottawa has won more on the road than they have lost and at 10-5 in their last 15 before the break, they are a capable team that has won their last four vs. a team with a winning record. The Bruins are coasting in recent games as sizeable chalk where they are 1-4 as a favorite of -151 to -200. Play on Ottawa.Game: Washington at Tampa Bay (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Tampa Bay -130 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.3) The Washington Capitals after opening the season with a big 7-0 mark have essentially become a .500 team since. They went 5-5 in their last 10 before the break and that has continued into recent play. Tampa Bay went into the break playing their best hockey of the season, as they took their last four before the break and it marks their longest winning streak of the season. The Caps’ road woes go beyond what they have accomplished this season, as a big negative. They are 1-7 in their last eight as a road dog. In their last eight, the Lightning are dispatching opponents that have a poor road mark as they are 5-1 vs. teams with a road winning percentage of less than .400 in their last six. Play on Tampa Bay.Game: Nashville at Minnesota (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Game Total OVER 5 -110 (risk 2 to win 1.8) This has been a solid season for the Nashville Predators, heading into the second half. The offense has found its groove, and this team has scored 15 goals in its last four games at just shy of 4 per contest, matching their season high for a four-game stretch. The Wild may be in trouble here as they allowed 9-of-11 teams to score 3 goals or more before the break - 38 overall. That hasn't been any different on home ice where they have played each of their last five contests to the OVER. The last 17 times these teams have faced off in Minnesota, just 2 of the 17 managed to stay UNDER the total, so play this one OVER.Game: Detroit at Calgary (9:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 5 -145 (risk 3 to win 2.1) The Detroit Red Wings have long been a menacing force at home and never more so than this season where they are 20-2-1. They have allowed just 17 goals in their last 12 at home at less than 1.5 per contest. The road has been another story all together where they have a losing record and the defense never seems to get on the plane. They have allowed 26 goals in their last seven on the road nearly 4 per contest. That is 2.5 goals more per game on the road than at home, and a low total is certainly chock full of value to the OVER. Toss in the fact that the Flames have been offensive when they have 3+ days rest where they are 4-1 to the OVER, so we have a play here on the OVER.Game: Colorado at Edmonton (9:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Game Total OVER 5 -145 (risk 2 to win 1.4) The Edmonton Oilers at 6-18-3 on the road this season have been a road disaster. They have simply not been able to score on the road as witnessed by their 5 goals in their last four road games. Despite having a winning record at home they have allowed 3 goals per game here in their last 12 on average. Colorado has been a team that with rejuvenated legs, off three or more days of rest. They have come out firing and aggressive, leading to a 7-2-1 OVER mark in their last 10 games on 3+ day’s rest. Edmonton has met a similar fate where they are 4-1 in their last five on 3+ days of rest. Play this one OVER the total. Results: 2-3 ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
