Hockey Game Predictions - January 31, 2009

Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: New York Rangers at Boston (1:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 5.5 +120 (risk 3 to win 3.6)

The Bruins have played in two OT games and two shootouts in their last four games after playing 24 straight games decided in regulation. This team is not playing at its best right now, and has allowed 14 goals scored against them in the last four. Add in the 14 they have scored themselves, and 28 pucks have crossed the net in their last four games - good for seven per game. The Bruins have now played to a 16-5 mark at home to the OVER in their last 21. The Rangers gave up six goals in their last outing against the Penguins. The Bruins have turned an 8-3-2 mark to the OVER when the opponent allowed five goals in their last game. This one has played under in the past, but these teams are entering this one playing differently now, and I like this one to be high scoring and will grab the OVER here.

The Shark Tank has been a house of horrors for all as San Jose has put together a 23-1-2 mark there. It would seem fitting that they are becoming a must-play-on team when at the Tank. The Blackhawks made a big run of their own a while back as they ran off nine straight, but have since been just 6-8. With 19 goals scored in their last 19 games, they certainly aren't threatening here to become the second team to knock off the Sharks at home. Evgeni Nabokov is on fire as he has allowed just one goal in his last three games. The Hawks will be playing in their third game in four nights and in this situation they are no match for anyone, as they are just 24-49-3 in their last 76. Their 57-120-2 mark in their last 179 games on the road doesn't shout upset here either. The Sharks get another home win.
