Free Nhl Hockey Picks - January 30, 2009We hit only two of our plays last night as the pucks were not bouncing in our favor. Today we look to gain some ground with four premium picks below. ![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: The Penguins are finally getting it together after a rough stretch that saw them playing their worst hockey in two years. The change is most notable behind the net where Marc-Andre Fleury has gotten hot. Fleury has allowed just five goals in his last four games, or just 1.25 a contest. The Devils have run their streak to six in a row without a loss. They have also been getting superb goaltending as Scott Clemmenson has allowed just nine goals in his last six behind the net, good for just 1.5 goals a game. We have two hot net-minders in a series that has played UNDER in the last five. I look for that to become six and am backing the UNDER. Game: Philadelphia at Tampa Bay (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Tampa Bay +127 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3.8) The Tampa Bay Lightning is a team improving. They found the win column just seven times in their first 32 games, but suddenly have done so 10 times in their last 17. That includes taking four of their last five at home. The Flyers had a 14-5 run of their own, but have declined since Christmas and slumped to a 6-6 team. They have dropped four of their last five on the road including a 4-1 loss in Tampa. The Flyers have not fared well in Tampa this year, or prior years for that matter, as they are just 2-7 here. One team playing well, the other is not, so the Lightning gets the nod here as a very live home dog. Game: Nashville at Calgary (9:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 5.5 +100 (risk 3 to win 3) The Predators’ road woes have run the season, and they have managed just a 2-6 mark in their last eight on the highway. The offense has not been able to produce anything, as the Predators last eight road tilts have seen them run the puck through the net just 15 times, including a five-goal outburst. That means that overall they have scored less than two a game, and if you take out the five-goal outburst, it is just 1.4 a game. The Flames have dominated at home where they have tasted defeat just five times on the season. There has not been a home loss to a team that has scored less than three goals all season. The way the Predators’ offense is lacking any firepower, it is hard to see them doing much here. That has led to the Predators playing 18-7-1 to the UNDER on the road against teams with a .600 or higher winning percentage, and 18-6 to the UNDER overall in their last 24. The Flames are 28-13-3 to the UNDER after a win, so the UNDER gets the call here. Game: Minnesota at Edmonton (9:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 5 -130 (risk 3 to win 2.3) The Wild has finally gotten hot on the offensive end. They have now scored 23 goals in their last six games. To put that in perspective, it previously took them 17 games to score 31! That might not be such good news for the Oilers who gave up 10 in their last game, running the tally to 23 over the last five. They have been averaging four a game in their last three themselves. These teams are both as productive as they have been all season right now, and the OVER has prevailed in seven of their last eight meetings, including 4-0 to the OVER in Edmonton. I like this one to play OVER. Results: 1-3 ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
