Nhl Picks Handicapping - January 27, 2010We missed the mark with our NHL picks last night going 2-3. We look to bounce back with four premium picks today and add to our three month record of 234-152 (61%) and +176.8 units.
 Today's NHL Hockey Picks: The Buffalo Sabres are scoring, but they can't stop anyone and that has led to a lot of recent losses. It has also led to 65 goals scored in their last ten games, or an average of 6.5 a game. The Devils are a tired team coming into this one, as this will be their fourth game in six nights, a situation that has led to four straight overs when they are playing on zero days rest. That shows the Devils scoring going up for and against in this situation and the Sabres are simply playing a lot of high scoring games, good enough from both sides to put this one OVER the total.Game: Montreal at Tampa Bay (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 5.5 -130 (risk 3 to win 2.3) The Lightning have suddenly become a force on home ice with six of the last eight decided in their favor here. The biggest reason is a team that is allowing just two goals a game in their last eight on home ice. The Canadiens have pushed to even for the season on the road on the strength of a 7-4 run in their last 11. They too, have been turning it up on the defensive end as they have allowed just three goals in their last three games overall. The Lightning playing at home as a favorite of -110 to -150 have been a remarkable under team, going 38-18-3 in their last 59 in this situation and are now a perfect 7-0 in their last seven as a home favorite to the under. This series has also seen six of the last seven play under and I will follow with an UNDER play in this one.Game: Anaheim at Washington (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Anaheim +190 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 3.8) The Washington Capitals are winners of their last seven games and the more they win the less value they have, in fact the pendulum swings in the other direction. They have lost six games at home this season, all of them were at -169 or higher. Anaheim is playing their best hockey of the season right now and have come out on the right side in eight of their last 11 games. The Caps, as good as they have played, have had one weak area, they are just 2-5 in their last seven vs the Pacific. The Ducks won't be intimidated here, as a matter of fact they are playing with confidence and on top of that have won four of the last five times they have come to Washington. I'll go with Anaheim here.Game: Anaheim at Washington (7:10 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Anaheim +1.5 goals -150 (puckline) (risk 4 to win 2.7) The Washington Caps are hot, but so are the Ducks who have taken eight of their last 11 games and have dropped just two games by two goals or more in those last 11. They have owned the Caps in Washington where they have come away with the win in four of their last five trips. There is value on the plus side of the puckline here and I'm playing the Anaheim Ducks on the puckline.Game: St. Louis at Vancouver (10:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 5 -140 (risk 3 to win 2.1) Blues continue their upside down season, struggling at home and flourishing on the road. This, despite the fact they have allowed three goals on average in their last eight road tilts. The Canucks have rattled off five straight for the win column, with an offense that is in peak form right now. The five game streak has seen the Canuck's score 21 times, or better than four a game. This means they may be in the hunt to topple the low total here on their own. Blues after scoring two or less in their last game have gone over in their next game to a mark of 7-0-1 in their last eight. The Canucks are also 3-0-1 to the over after their opponent allowed two or less in their last game. This one is too low and I'm playing for this one to go OVER the total.
