Free Hockey Picks - February 29, 2008

We lost another OT game yesterday and went just 1-3. Tonight we'll go with three games...

Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: San Jose at Detroit (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Detroit -135 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.2)

Detroit gets Brad Stuart back here. They have won six straight vs. San Jose and they remain very good at home. We don't see them dropping four straight here. The Sharks are winless in six tries this season vs. teams that average 29+ shots and 17%+ power play conversion. They are also just 8-13 revenging a loss this season and 1-8 the past three seasons revennging two straight losses by 2+ goals to an opponent.

Montreal can score but their defense is a concern. Buffalo is even better offensively than Montreal, averaging 3.5 goals per game at home and 4.6 per game over their last five. Montreal has been horrible on the road vs. good offenses as they are 4-17 the past two seasons on the road vs. teams scoring 2.9+ goals per game in post All Star play. Buffalos is 14-5 off a win by 2+ goals this season.

Toronto scores just 2.5 goals per game on the road. They have won three straight but are due for a fall. Tampa Bay is mired in a five-game slide. But, home favorites coming off 3+ straight losses are 118-47 (72%) the past five seasons in post All-Star play. Toronto is just 27-38 vs. losing teams the past two seasons. We like Tampa Bay to bust out of their losing streak here.

We like Toronto's chances here at a 2+ goal win so we'll also back them on the puck line.
