Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: Nashville at Buffalo (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 5.5 -125 (risk 3 to win 2.4)
Nashville has gone UNDER just once in their last nine games while Buffalo has gone OVER in three straight. Both offenses are clicking while the defenses are playing poorly. We like for that trend to continue tonight. Buffalo is coming off a home loss and they are 6-0 OVER at home in that situation this year. Overall they are 10-3 OVER in the second of back-to-back home games this season. They are also 19-9 OVER the past two seasons coming off a high-scoring home game in which both teams scored 3+ goals.
Game: San Jose at Columbus (7:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Columbus +120 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3.6)
After some trades, these two clubs look different. The Blue Jackets lost some quality players in Adam Foote and Sergei Fedorov. San Jose picked up an All Star in Brian Campbell. But, the fact remains that this is the sixth road game in a row for the Sharks and after two road wins, we don't seem them winning three in a row. The Sharks are 5-11 the past two seasons coming off 2+ straight road wins. Columbus is playing awesome defense and can stick with San Jose on the offensive end. The Blue Jackets are 18-15 this season vs. winning teams. They have fared well vs. good defenses, too.
Game: Minnesota at Tampa Bay (7:30 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Minnesota -125 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.4)
Tampa Bay went crazy on the trade front, and it's no surprise as they are currently the lowest-point team in the East. The Wild are a decent road team, sitting at .500 while Tampa Bay is sub-.500, even at home. Both teams have weak defenses so this one will come down to who can score more. Favorites coming off three straight losses facing a team off 2+ straight losses win at a 75% clip in the NHL (84-28 the past five years). The Lightning are just 11-20 this season coming off a home game. With the trades affecting this team so much, we look for Minnesota to come in and win this one.
Game: Toronto at Florida (7:30 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Florida -125 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.4)
Florida crushed Toronto the lats time the met, 8-0. Yes, Toronto will be looking for revenge but we don't think they get it here on the road. Florida will be playing just as hard thanks to having lost four of their last five games to fall into a tie with Toronto near the bottom of the Eastern standings. Toronto is just 11-20 on the road this season, scoring only 2.4 goals per game. Since last season, they are 26-38 vs. losing teams and just 2-9 after a blowout win by 4+ goals (they beat Ottawa 5-0 on Monday). Florida here.
