Nhl Prediction - February 17, 2009
We nailed both of our NHL picks yesterday. Today we are back on the ice with another pair inluding a 5-unit pick.
Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: Chicago at Tampa Bay (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 6 -120 (risk 3 to win 2.5)
The Lightning has been prone to long stretches with few or no wins this season. It is usually due to their trouble putting the puck in the net. That has certainly been a problem for them of late as they have scored one goal or less in four of their last seven games, and four of their last five at home. The Blackhawks have been an UNDER team on the road now for most of the season as they have played UNDER in 13 of their last 18 on the road. That streak includes a 7-1 mark to the UNDER when the total rises to six. The Lightning can't score and the Blackhawks are playing tight, low-scoring games on the road. As a result, I have to go with the UNDER in this one.

The Avalanche have fallen apart as the season moves into the latter stages. Colorado has now won just four of their last 15 games, and even home ice shows a 3-6 mark over their last nine. The defense and goaltending have been bad as they have allowed 58 goals over the 15-game stretch, or just about four per contest. This has been good for backers of the OVER in Avs games, taking their total goals scored over the 15 games to 101, or their games have produced an unlikely 6.7 goals per game over the last 15. The Senators offense is playing superb on the road right now as they have netted 19 over the last five - or getting about four per game themselves. These teams have also played to high-scoring games in Colorado as five of the last six have gone OVER the total, and I like this one to do the same. The OVER gets the call here.
