Game: San Jose at New York Rangers (1:00 PM Eastern)

San Jose is great on the road but they are facing a great defense this afternoon. The Rangers who have really struggled offensively have found ways to win games, especially at home thanks to allowing just 2.3 goals per game. And, right now, the Sharks are struggling offensively too (2.4 per game over their last five). They have lost two straight and four of their last seven games. They are just 21-29 the past three seasons after having lost two straight. It appears odd for New York to be favored here but it's for a reason - San Jose just isn't right at the moment and we'll take New York.

What's wrong with Detroit? They have dropped five in a row after looking unbeatable for most of the year. Dallas meanwhile has won eight of nine. Detroit's offense has fallen off as they are averaging just 2.0 goals per game over their losing stretch. But, their games are still averaging 6 per as they are giving up 4.0 per game. Dallas plays great defense at home but they also score to the tune of 3.2 per game here. The Stars are 13-5 OVER this season vs. winning opponents. Detroit is 6-0 OVER off two straight losses this season. We like this one to go OVER the total.
Game: Calgary at Anaheim (8:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Game Total OVER 5 -120 (risk 4 to win 3.3)
Calgary is 12-9 OVER on the road this season with their games averaging 6.3 goals per game. Anaheim's defense is what is keeping this line down. But, their offense, since the return of Teemu Selanne has looked up. Since his return they have averaged 2.7 goals per game. While not earth-shattering, remember that all of those were road games. At home, it will improve even more. In post-All Star Game play, the Flames are 13-4 OVER the past two seasons vs. good defensive teams (those averaging under 2.6 goals per game allowed). We like this one to get to 6+ goals.
