Hockey Picks - February 11, 2010

We hit a slight bump in the road going 3-4 on the night.  However, all was not a loss as we nailed our 5 unit play putting us at 99-47 (68%) on the season for our 5 unit NBA, CBB and NHL plays.We hit the ice with three premium plays tonight and look to add to our three and a half month record of 247-169 and +159.4 units.

Game: Washington at Ottawa (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Ottawa +110 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 4.4)

The Caps have a superior record here, but when you consider their road work vs what the Senators have done at home this year, the Senators have the better resume, yet they are listed as a dog here which points to immediate value. The Caps had a 14 game streak without suffering a loss, but dropped their last one in OT and may be a bit flat here, which tends to happen to teams ending long winning streaks as the pressure to keep extending it leads to a strong effort every night. The Senators have been a hot team as well, having a streak of their own at six straight wins at home. Senators have allowed just eight goals in their last six in this building and that leaves them in a valued position to be a live dog here. I'm going with Ottawa in this one.

The Sabres lost to Carolina just a week ago at home, so I would expect them to bring a little extra to the return match here in Tampa. The Sabres not only have revenge going here, but have been their best on the road when coming off a home game and starting a road trip, where they are 9-6 on the season. They have also gotten it done as a road favorite where they stand at 7-3 on the season. This is also a spot the UNDER has been money for the Sabres as they are 21-7-4 to the UNDER as a favorite of -110 to -150, including their last four on the road. The Hurricane is a not very potent 7-19 in their last 26 games vs a team with a winning record and just 2-6 in their last eight played on one day rest. I like Buffalo and the UNDER in this one.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are on a roll as the offense has produced nearly three goals a game over their last 15. Bruins on the other hand aren't enjoying nearly the success they had a year ago, home or away. They have not been effective behind the net, where they have allowed an average of over three goals a game in their last 16. That makes the total for this one set at a very low five and at regular odds to be the valued side here for this matchup. The Lightning have produced ten goals already on this homestand and it doesn't look like Boston is stopping anyone right now. I'm going with the OVER in this one.
