Nhl Picks - February 09, 2009

Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: New York Rangers at New Jersey (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on Game Total UNDER 5.5 -140 (risk 2 to win 1.4)

The New York Rangers have been more than respectable on the road as they are above the .500 mark. The recent road play however, has not been the same story as the Rangers have dropped their last four. It can be singled out to a struggling, slumping offense that has managed just four goals in those four games and have been shutout twice. The Devils have spent a lot of time on the road of late, and they have not been productive at home as they have netted just three goals in their last two on home ice. The Rangers have rebounded well defensively as after allowing five goals in a game, they have come back to play 8-1-1 to the UNDER in their last 10. The Devils are following suit as they have gone 6-2 to the UNDER when playing an opponent that allowed five or more in its last game. I like the UNDER here.

You have to go back to November of last year to find the Flames dropping three straight at home. With just seven home losses on the season, it is unlikely to occur here. They are 67-31 at home against an opponent with a losing road record. Despite the back-to-back home losses, they are 10-3 in their last 13 on home ice. The Canadiens went through a stretch where they did not get the win in just three of 14 games. They have since gone cold as they have now claimed victory in just two of their last nine and have dropped five straight on the road. This has been a home-dominated series with the home side winning in each of the last six and I don't see that changing here. The Flames get the call.
