We rate each pick 1 to 5 units with 5 being the strongest play (read about units).
Risk 1% of your bankroll per unit (never risk more than 5% of total bankroll on any pick).
Game: New York Rangers at Buffalo (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Buffalo -175 (risk 2 to win 1.1)
The Rangers swept the Thrashers in round one but they could be the one swept here. Buffalo is just that good. They scored 308 goals in the regular seasons and had seven separate players score 20 or more. Buffalo swept the Rangers during the regular season, going 4-0. It's been five months since the teams have met but the result in game one should be the same. New York on the road was just over .500 this season but their scoring drops off significantly compared to home games (2.8 per game on road vs. 3.2 at home). Buffalo kept the Islanders to 2.2 per game so New York will have trouble keeping up with the high-powered Sabres offense (4.0 per game at home in regular season, 3.4 per game vs. the Islanders). Over the past two seasons, the Rangers are just 4-17 on the road vs. winning teams in late-season play! This season, since the mid-way point, they are 1-8 vs. teams that outscore their opponents by 0.3+ goals per game. Too much to ask for New York here.
Game: Vancouver at Anaheim (10:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Anaheim -206 (risk 3 to win 1.5)
The Ducks have had six days of rest after taking care of the Wild in five games. Vancouver needed seven games to dispatch of Dallas and the extra rest should serve the home team well here. Vancouver escaped with a round one victory despite having scored just eight total goals in the seven games. They were shut out by Dallas three times! Vancouver was unable to beat Anaheim during the regular season and with Bryzgalov playing as well as he is, the Canucks will struggle mightily tonight. Both teams played great defense in the opening round (1.7 per game allowed by Vancouver vs. 1.8 per game by Anaheim) but the difference will be in offense. Anaheim averaged 3.5 per game at home this year, posting a 29-15 mark. They were 19-4 this season at home vs. winning teams and 16-4 overall vs. great defensive teams (those allowing 2.4 or less goals per game).
